Play It Forward’s mission is simple: to inspire excellence in youth through innovative music education.

Founded in 2017, Play It Forward works in partnership with Title 1 schools to offer no cost music lessons and instruments to students during the school day. No barrier, whether income, ability, or distance should stand between a child and their potential to become their very best. Once given, students keep their instruments and lessons for life.

Authors Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn put it well: “Talent is universal, but opportunity is not.” Play It Forward works to close that gap because learning an instrument can transform a child’s life. It is linked to stronger memory, attention, and academic performance, and it supports children’s mental wellness and sense of well-being and no child should grow up without the opportunity to benefit from it.
